The poster was designed for a major international exposition in city of Taejon (now spelled Daejeon) in South Korea, with a theme of "The Challenge of a New Road of Development". Designer Cho Young-Jae strived to be transmit visual messages with concise and restrained features, acceptance of high-tech techniques, logical typography, and objective photographic processing. Having studied graphic design in the mid 1950s when design was under-recognized in Korea, he protected his self-esteem with a hope for graphic design to become an independent field of profession. Now, he one one of the most celebrated graphic designers in Korea who is well known for his contributions to modern corporate identities and visuals of Seoul 1988 Olympics.
