"De Bretteville again merged “high” and “low” vernaculars and deployed a raw aesthetic for this CalArts poster, applying a modernist typographic treatment— along with symbols of nature (a pinecone), play (a jack), and technology (a transistor)—to cardboard packaging, which was then shrink-wrapped." –Louise Sandhaus, Earthquakes, Mudslides, Fires & Riots: California and Graphic Design 1936-1986
