Art nouveau-style Silver-convertible Note (アールヌーヴォー調 日本銀行兌換券)

10

At the end of the Meiji era, some specialists in printing went to Europe and the United States to study and brought back new printing technology to Japan. The new technique was used for the note. This was created in 1910. This design was different from Edoardo Chiossone’s designs. The French Art Nouveau style influenced their new style. It was more fluid and light green and purple were used for printing. They used a new technique called Sukashi (透かし/watermark) in the rounded space.
