The Remodeled Note was created in 1881. It was designed and printed by Edoardo Chiossone who was Oyatoi-Gaikokujin (お雇い外国人). Washi, Japanese paper, was used for printing (和紙). It was also the first time a portrait was designed. It has a portrait of Empress Jingu (神功皇后). This was also called Jingu Kougou Satsu.
