National Bank Note (旧国立銀行紙幣)

10

The old type of national bank note was printed in 1873. The Japanese government ordered an American company to print them. They resemble the U.S. national banknotes of the time. From this time, banknotes began to be printed horizontally. They have images of gods and people. It was also around this time that the Japanese government began using the word "ginko," meaning bank. Designs of bills became more complex, and the number of letters increased.
