I'm For Nixon and Lodge Political Pin
This is a political campaign button from Republicans Nixon and Lodge running against Democrats Kennedy and Johnson. Political campaign buttons date as far back as George Washington and are used to raise morale and support for presidential candidates. This was the first U.S. election where all 50 states were able to participate including Hawaii and Alaska. It was also the first election in which an existing president was ineligible to run for a third term because of the term limits established by the 22nd Amendment. This election was extremely close and controversial, as Kennedy won the presidency by 0.17 percent. Even though Kennedy defeated Nixon in this election, his assassination in 1963 led to the Presidency of Johnson, followed by Nixon in 1968.
