Paul Rand (1914–1996) was a pioneering figure in American graphic design. Rand's career spanned almost seven decades. In March 1993, Rand was invited to a celebratory event organized by AIGA Boston and Massachusetts College of Art. Rand did not do prepared lectures, he preferred being interviewed on stage. For this event, organized by Elizabeth Resnick, Rand was interviewed by Douglass Scott, his former Yale student.
The event was completely sold out (MassArt’s Tower Auditorium holds 300+) and started half an hour late because it took so long to get people into their seats.
The line to enter the auditorium was over two blocks long.
The poster was printed offset by Pride Printers, Woburn, Massachusetts, and printed on Strathmore Renewal 80lb text. The back side is printed solid yellow. The text on the poster was written by Professor Al Gowan (1934–2017), who taught Design History at MassArt.
