“Growth is the Word in L.A.“

"Covers the growth of Los Angeles and its effect on advertising. This article written by Robert Freeman discusses the urban growth of Los Angeles and its effect on the advertising industry. After World War II, Los Angeles was second only to Detroit in terms of production of war materials. Historically, advertising in Los Angeles focused around three industries: agriculture, gasoline, and travel. As these industries grew so did the advertising business. The article concludes with a warning to artists wishing to move to Los Angeles for work, because there is a “surplus” of talent." —Research and scan by Eva Cordtz for Graphic Design Treasure Hunt assignment in Shirin Rabin’s graphic design history course, CalState North, 2016.
