Ten Years of the Shenshi Telegraphic Dispatch Agency

Designed by Qian Jun-tao, this poster serves as an example of Chinese expressionist design, also known as Shanghai style design. During the 1930's, Lu Xan became an influential writer and spread the ideas of minimalism and Bauhaus-inspired modeernism throughout China. Chinese designers were introduced to woodblock printing techniques through German expressionists, further pushing the newly developing modernist movement in large cities like Shanghai. 

Qian Jun-tao was an artist who specialized in calligraphy, painting, and seal engraving. His works combined traditional Chinese calligraphy techniques with modernist composition.
