This is the cover of the book written by French linguist Jean Georges on the evolution of writing and letters.
About the design of the image, there is a the traditional Chinese character "笔" written with a brush in the middle, which occupies the largest space, it refers to pen or any other writing tools. Other elements are also related to the writing history in different places. For example, the light blue pattern in the upper right corner represents the pictographic characters used by people live in primitive states, the hand holding the feather pen in the lower right corner represents the writing tools in Europe, and the man selling books in the lower left corner reflects the popularity of books as a carrier of text.
In terms of type design, the title of the book uses a serif English font in red, which looks simple and neat. Because the book is small sized, the compact distance between the text and the various pattern elements makes it very eye-catching.
