CTA transit system car card. The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is Chicago’s rapid transit system. This map is specifically from the ‘L’ Rail System, referring to Chicago’s elevated train tracks, while a lot of these train lines also running underground. This map is from the inside of a train car. It consists of 2 separate prints placed next to each other. These signs are not for sale, but are sought after by Chicago college and high school students as well as other collectors and enthusiasts. In 2012 over 150 maps were discovered at DePaul University Housing. Students found collecting the maps interesting, with each line having its own rarity. Each train line has its own map while every line has this map. This specific map has gone over many different iterations over the years.
Published by the cta, with specific brand guidelines. The map features Helvetica and has the newest iteration of the logo followed by Rail ‘L’ System. In the middle is the map of the cta with each respective line. There is a key explaining specifics about the map such which lines are transfers and what which station is which.
