Players start at the "start" in the lower right corner and proceed in a clockwise spiral to the "up" in the center. The roadside illustrations are strange and satirical, and include, for example, a man crawling out of his nostrils and a drawing of an octopus and a woman that seems to be a homage to Hokusai. These humorous and satirical elements reflect the culture and customs of the common people of the time, and are characteristic of social satire and genre painting from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period. This work has value not only as a mere plaything, but also as a valuable source of information on the customs and social conditions of the time and the common people's sense of humor.
