According to Ruben Ferreira Duarte's article on the DOC website, “Almanaque” was a monthly magazine that was published from 1959-1960 whose covers were designed by Portuguese designer Sebastião Rodrigues. This magazine was being designed and released while under the Estado Novo regime in Portugal, and it is an example of Rodrigues' simple, geometric graphic style that continued to characterize much of his work in subsequent years.

Rodrigues was born in Dafundo, Portugal in 1929, and began his design career at age 13, assisting his father in the advertising department of the “A Voz” newspaper (https://www.doc.cc/articles/portugal-by-sebastiao-rodrigues-pencil).

Duarte's article also states that Rodrigues had “ a very special fascination for all Portuguese culture and folklore" and how his work is an example of how to be connected to one's origins while being in tune with modernity at the same time.

Despite the growing digital age later in his life and its massive impact on the world of design, Rodrigues remained partial to his manual, workshop approach to design (https://www.doc.cc/articles/portugal-by-sebastiao-rodrigues-pencil).
