This typeface, Columbus, was designed by Patricia Saunders and her contributions at Monotype in the 1980s. As women worked in these type foundries as Type Drawing Office (TDO) members, they were constantly influencing the work that was created, and as time progressed since the formation of these foundries, women like Saunders were able to spearhead and design their own typefaces, such as Columbus. This allowed and eventual evolved into the greater presence of women in type creation rather than their initial anonymous draftswomen roles.
