The invention of lithography was important to the spread of information and ideas regarding the women's suffrage movement of the 18th century.  

This design was part of a contest held by by the College Equal Suffrage League in San Fransisco, California according to Google Arts & Culture. The premise of the contest was to design an illustration that supported women's right to vote. 

Bertha Margaret Boye’s winning design was extremely popular as it was printed onto a variety of media used to promote the women's suffrage movement in 1911 such as stamps, cards, fliers, and posters.
