A series of NappyGram prints. The phrase originated from Maggie Kuhn, a social activist who offered these words of advice to others interested in civil rights. She also formed the Gray Panthers, a multi-generational local advocacy group that confronts social justice issues.

The term "NappyGram" was coined from Amos Kennedy's personal experience at Indiana University, where a report referred to the hiring of “non-white” members instead of “colored” members.

The origin of NAPPY was both a critique and a humorous take on the issue of racial disparity within academic art departments.
