"Fitzgerald, the first employee at Pacific from a design background, was met with the brick wall of the convention — the title cards with hand-lettered script on a patterned or illustrated background. Fitzgerald found his yearning quashed by an an industry entrenched by lack of vision and desire, to move beyond the norms — literally to make things move! Not until Saul Bass broke the mold with his Man With a Golden Arm (1955) title design did new a approach take hold and the opportunity for Fitzgerald to become possibly THE most prolific title designer — creating titles for both feature films and TV as well as one of the first “designers” at Pacific to be credited for his work.... Fitzgerald went on to become prolific in his production of film and TV titles during his many years at
Pacific and later on his own."—Louise Sandhaus, cut page from Earthquakes, Mudslides, Fires & Riots: California and Graphic Design, 1936-1986
