Bijin-Ga poster
This poster was designed by Tsunetomi Kitano for advertising Kiku Masamune Sake brewery. Kitano was one of the most famous Ukiyo-e artists at the time. During his career, Kitano published many Ukiyo-e paintings mainly specialized in Bijin-ga (beautiful person picture). In this poster, you can see a painting of a woman wearing a traditional Kimono along with the brewer's name printed next to it. In the background of this poster you can see peony flowers printed on Fusuma (Japanese traditional sliding doors). In Japanese culture, peony represents honor and wealth. On her kimono, you can see a Kabuki actor face printed along with what seems like a mulberry leaf. The original poster is exhibited in Kiku Masamune memorial hall.
