Raphael Tuck & Sons’ “Christmas” Series № C.141

8

A well-aged, image dominant, Christmas-themed postcard. This card depicts a little girl with her dolls in the woods watching as a distant Santa Claus rides past in his sleigh framed by a vibrant sunset. The image itself showcases realism of the foreground, especially in the folds of the child’s dress, mixed with more abstracted figures with flatter colors towards the background. The typography at the bottom is printed with a metallic gold and wishes the receiver of the postcard a “HAPPY CHRISTMAS.” This specific postcard is Raphael Tuck & Sons’ “Christmas” Series № C.141. This company was created by Raphael Tuck and his wife Ernestine Lissner in London, England in October 1866. Their sons Adolph, Herman and Gustave also assisted with the family business. Their gorgeous crest depicts a canvas with the initials “RTS” paired with a paint palette and brushes. The condition of the card consists of a natural aging of the paper and a crease on the top left corner. This postcard was shipped by the United States post office in 1907.
