The label is chartreuse with black and magenta type—typographical hierarchy is achieved through the use of differentiating type weight and hue. The black type is slightly debossed into the label. At the top center lies the magenta and white logo mark for Philadelphia International Records, consisting of simple geometric shapes. The record's name seems to be printed in Helvetica or some similar sans-serif. Marks of wear and tear can be seen on the label from use over the years.
In order to increase its level of success, the corporate powerhouse CBS—home of Columbia and Epic Records—wanted to get more involved in the Black Music scene and forged with PIR. The artists they signed were typically extremely seasoned professionals who had endured many trials and tribulations, either as performances or as recording artists.
The logo has developed over the years, keeping its original form but undergoing slight modifications in overall aesthetic.
