To draw the viewer's attention to the type work and logomark in the center of the record, the label uses an ombre gradient that transitions from pink to purple in the background. At the top lies the  “COTILLION” logo mark [a vinyl record graphic] which forms a “C”. The Cotillion Label was a subsidiary of Atlantic Records, and this logo mark was used from the mid-1970s on. Black type is found around the label, utilizing different line weights to achieve visual hierarchy.

Originally intended to serve as a platform for deep Southern soul and blues, the label's library swiftly grew to encompass progressive rock, folk-rock, jazz, comedy, and gospel. The label began specializing in rhythm & blues and disco in 1976.
