This poster by Robert Muchley was commissioned by the WPA to promote safety in the workplace. The woodcut print was made during the period when President Roosevelt created the Works Progress Administration (1935) under the New Deal in order to generate jobs in the USA to address the Great Depression. Muchley and thousands of artists and designers of the time were commissioned and supported to create works and maintain their livelihood and practice. This poster reminds workers in the industrialized economy to be safe as they work and shows the potential for design to inspire work culture. This was found while researching designer's roles in work culture, capitalism, entrepreneurship and wellness.
