This magazine is meant for followers of the political party the Socialist Party in America during the 90s. The socialist party is a social-political party in the United States with the core values of anti-oppression, anti-corrupt authority, and societies focused on people first. The definition from the Socialist Party USA is a party that “strives to establish a radical democracy that places people's lives under their own control- a classless, feminist, socialist society free of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia, in which people cooperate at work, at home, and in the community”. This issue was educating on labor strikes and workers' rights, making it very relevant to the U.S. The current climate surrounds the same issues. There has been a clear uptick in major strikes in the U.S.A. This past year especially in the entertainment industry. This magazine was by paid subscription and printed by union labor and on recycled paper. The newspaper has a strong design because of its clean layout and strong typefaces. It's also a prime example of graphic design historically being used informationally and for conveying political views. Another reason this is an important piece of design to preserve is because it gives insight into the issues the Socialist Party was facing at the time. It also is about a nondominant party in the two-party system that America is in, there is less information than about the democratic and republican parties. Democratic and Republican news is usually published in the main newspapers in America while Socialist news may not be in the spotlight or front pages.
