Und Du?

1

“Und Du?” by Ludwig Hohlwein implements a helmeted soldier in shadow and just two words which translate to - and you? This image is described by viewers to be chilling. Its main intent is to call Germans to vote for the Nazi party. The art combines man and helmet into an inhuman sculptural mass. The German Empire appointed black, white, and red as its national colors. The official use of the colors was addressed in an ordinance from 1892. The black-white-red tricolor stayed the flag of Germany until the fall of the German Empire in 1918, in the last days of World War I. Behind the man seems to be the flag of the German Empire at the time, which addresses the political needs of this period based on the traditional historical styles (WWI). In this graphic design, there is a strong emphasis on the theme of color.
