RCA Video Disc for 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

The poster seen on the front side of the RCA video disc was painted by Robert McCall in 1968. McCall was born December 23, 1919 in Columbus, OH, U.S.A. and was  famous for his space paintings. McCall described his work as being his “current graphic thoughts about tomorrow“ and saw joy in the freedom of creating his own worlds that relate to the real life wonders of technological advancement. 

He worked as an artist for NASA, documenting the history of the Space Race. Additionally, his work can be found on U.S. postage stamps, NASA mission patches while his murals are displayed in the National Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, The Pentagon, Epcot, and the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. 
 

Robert died February 26, 2010.
