Bull Durham Cigarette ad

9

This cigarette ad was found in the margins of an edition of Life Magazine. It features large display type with serifs similar to American Woodtype. The main image is a graphite illustration of a cowboy smoking a cigarette. The cowboy and “Slow-poke” at the top alludes to the name of the type of cigarette being Bull Durhams. In the sans serif copy, it describes these cigarettes as being long lasting, like a cattle drive. It uses phototypesetting to layer and align the text and images.
