Casino Royale is an American spy movie directed by Martin Campbell that came out in 2006. It is the third film adaptation of Ian Fleming’s 1953 novel and the twenty-first movie in the Eon Productions James Bond series. The story follows Bond as he receives his license to kill and sets out to bankrupt a terrorist in a high-stakes poker game. The opening credits to the movie create a kaleidoscopic world of playing cards and their suits that Bond is entangled within. Gunfire sends ripples through clubs that expand outward like blood soaking through clothing. This is then followed by flat illustrations of Bond in his iconic black suit as he fights off various attackers and turns them into scattered cards. This intro designed by Daniel Kleinman successfully plays on the theme of poker to illustrate the mind games that Bond takes part in to outsmart his enemies.
