Precinct Press, Southend's alternative paper

192

First issue of the Precinct Press, an alternative newspaper published and printed in Southend-on-Sea in the South East of the United Kingdom. To the uninitiated the cover probably seems abstract. But to those who live in the town, and others who frequent or are familiar with popular seaside resorts, the illustration is a close-up of Southend pier, an attraction typical of many South British seaside towns. The injunction ‘Please recycle’ reminds us that todays preoccupations with the environment are anything but new. The illustration is in part the product of do-it-yourself printers discovering the specificities of high contrast orthochromatic film. The typography is Letraset rub-down lettering from start to finish. The printing, rough and ready is on foolscap format (long pre-A4) paper.
