Rosebud Card from Rosebud Perfume Co.

9

Pictured are two variations of the same “Rosebud Card,” most likely from the 1940s. It utilizes a 2-color printing method and would have been given to customers of Rosebud Perfume Company in Woodsboro, Maryland after purchase to redeem a free gift. The typesetting with a floral border and the extreme illustration detail make this a beautiful piece of design. The back of the cards features interesting typesetting, using a variety of different fonts as well as more illustrated imagery. This everyday object would have been seen by every customer, so it was created carefully and with great detail. It's interesting to compare the changes that were made to the color of the ink used. The bottom card feels much more vibrant and might have been corrected a corrected version after seeing the outcome of the top card.
