Lisa Frank Unicorn Sticker

3

This sticker was sold in 1984, five years after Lisa Frank launched her eponymous company in 1979. This small, round sticker is 2 inches in diameter and features a pink, rainbow-dipped unicorn looking off to the side. The unicorn was the ultimate fantasy for children of the day. If its vibrant colors and eyelashes weren’t enough, its horn sparkled in front of a clear night sky, with red and white stars in the background. Frank was clearly inspired by the 1960s, bringing psychedelia to children’s stickers and school supplies. The paper on the back of the sticker encourages children to “Collect them all!” in bold, fuchsia, sans serif type. The unicorn has been a lasting motif for Lisa Frank, appearing in multiple iterations with an updated version in contemporary Lisa Frank products. The original design was created using a hand-painted airbrushing technique; it wasn’t until 1989 that the company began to use computer software for graphics.
