Although there is no known artist for this piece, it is evident that pin up girls were a part of the vernacular during this time in history. Pin up girls coined because a woman would be so beautiful in a magazine or photograph that men would cut out their pictures and pin them to their wall, bunk, or locker when stationed. Soldiers would get these girls as tattoos for different reasons: because they were an inspiration for what they were fighting for, to resemble a spouse, or simply to gain courage. They were able to look down and see these encouraging girls looking back at them and knew they would go home if they fought hard. These tattoos boosted morale.
