Kolap Pailin (The Rose of Pailin) is a Cambodian novel written by Nhok Them, first serialized in 1943. The novel is regarded as one of the classics of modern Khmer literature, alongside Sophat and Phka Srapoun. The story revolves around themes of love, morality, and social class, set in the picturesque region of Pailin, known for its gem mines. The central plot follows the romance between Chao Chet, an honest young worker, and Kolab, the daughter of his employer. Despite the challenges posed by differences in social status, the novel promotes values of integrity and hard work, symbolizing a moral framework reflective of Cambodian society in the early 20th century. Today, Kolap Pailin remains a popular text in Cambodian schools and is often taught as a lesson in both literature and ethics
This is a comic book version of Kolap Pailin in which traditional customs of arranged marriage clash with the love story of the central characters are illustrated.
