Momotaro: Sacred Sailors

9

Mitsuyo Seo was the director of this war time propaganda animation. It depicts the ethnic stereotypes that the Japanese had of Caucasians. They were seen as slow and cowardly with big noses. This film was similar to the Japanese folk tale of Momotaro, the boy who was born from a giant peach and with the help of his animal friends saved an island from demons. Having Momotaro be the main figure created national pride towards the audience.
