Vessel is the third studio album released by Twenty One Pilots. It was released on January 8, 2013 and was the band’s first album released through their label, Fueled by Ramen. The album cover consists of a photo of the two members’ paternal grandfathers on the front and the two band members standing in front of their respective grandfathers on the back. The photos were taken by Reel Bear Media, and the cover was created by Reel Bear Media and Virgilio Tzaj. The photo on the album cover, as expressed by the band, goes along with the album’s name. The vessel isn’t all that important, but the message inside the vessel is. Their grandfathers represent vessels, and after they die—after the vessel is gone—the message still remains and lives on. The purpose of this album cover is to visually describe the album and the songs it contains.
