“Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus” by Charles Mingus

In 1964, Impulse! Records released Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus by Charles Mingus. This record accompanies some of Mingus's best work and displays a fully realized musical vision. Songs on the album range from sleek balladry and a wholly unique use of organized chaos. The sound of the album reflects nicely with the use of typography on the cover. The bold sans serif of the word “MINGUS” leaning as if it is trying its best to balance is a great representation of the lopsided feel of the album. One minor change and everything falls apart. This cover is an achievement of affective minimalism and subjective use of typography.
