Nashville was a movie made in 1975 and directed and produced by Robert Altman. The movie Nashville focuses on various celebrities and wannabes, over the course of five days, involved in country and gospel music in Nashville, Tennessee. Although from various backgrounds, the character's lives intersect in unpredictable ways. The VHS displayed was published in 2000 in Hollywood, California by Paramount.
The front cover is very illustrative as it features an exaggerated caricature of a microphone with feminine arms and legs presenting Uncle Sam's American-styled hat. The microphone character stands on a stage with whimsical and stylized fireworks displayed in the dark background. The title appears to be the Helvetica typeface with the American flag displayed inside. The front cover's color is a dark gradient from black to navy. The spine of the cover features the same typeface and design as the front. The back of the package features a brief summary of the film, starting with a specially designed red and starry drop cap. There are several scenes depicted on the back against the same image as the front, only it has been enlarged and saturated. The back also includes production copyright information and logos, movie credits, special features from the movie, a barcode for scanning, and a URL to the Paramount home video site.
This package is important to incorporate into design history as it displays the illustrative style of old American propaganda campaigns seen in America's Uncle Sam recruitment posters. It contains a lot of old design character not usually seen in newer movie video packaging and should be preserved.
