Cover of COLORS Magazine Issue #07 – Aids

The cover of this issue of the COLORS magazine, designed by Tibor Kalman in 1994, depicts an arguably phallic middle finger disrupting the typography of the word “AIDS”. The design as a whole utilizes bold sans-serif fonts and references to modernistic design, however the disruptment of the type (however slight) aligns with the political message of the issue at hand and creates an impact of radical design in the face of the under-discussed issues of sexual health.
