J&M advertisement

Newspaper Ad extending a “Thank You” to Auburn readers from the local bookstore, Johnston & Malone.  Figure 1 (top) repeats at the bottom of the photo in an alternate size, Figure 2.  The illustration of Aubie the Tiger leaning on the depiction of the store conveys that the Auburn community can depend on J&M. While it is surface level message sends thankfulness, its ulterior motive is to grab the attention of students who are not aware of the school supplies that the bookstore sells.  It makes services aware to both students and members of the community. The ad is clearly outweighed by text in comparison to illustration, so this is an early example of an informational ad from J&M. It is necessary to preserve artifacts of J&M considering that it is one of the only historical vendors left in the downtown Auburn area.
