1972 Grease Playbill

6

This 5.75in by 9in booklet was a reference guide to attendees of the 1970s Broadway play, “Grease”. It is made solely from paper, staples, and ink. The play premiered on February 14th, 1972. This booklet guided the audience through the performance and gives collectors a glimpse into that night of the theater. The cover features black and white illustrative art of the main cast, right below a large headline reading “Grease” in an organic style font. Striped across the top is the iconic yellow rectangle with the word Playbill within it. When looking within the booklet, many 70s advertisements can be found like the one for Beefeater Gin at the bottom of the page. This booklet contains the cast, musicians, and acts for this still very well known play. It contains type styles, art, and even advertisements that almost act as a time capsule and look into the design styles of the 70s.
