50: The Golden Anniversary of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture

1019

From the Swann Galleries site

For its 50th anniversary, the Schomburg apparently commissioned this original work by Romare Bearden, featuring images of the founder, Phillis Wheatley, the Emancipation Proclamation and more in his distinctive collage style. We can trace no other examples in OCLC or at auction.

It's unclear from the site whether Bearden has anything to do with the type treatment. It appears the image was commissioned.
