Red Calendar February Page

350

The 1977 Red Calendar was produced by See Red Women's Workshop, a radical collective of 40 female printmakers in London, England. This calendar was one of many that they had produced throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Through bold, screenprinted designs and blunt messaging techniques, the calendar confronted issues such as workplace barriers and expectations at home, while also addressing broader themes like equal pay, reproductive freedom, and racial inclusivity. The February page concocts a clever metaphor,  comparing the life of working women to a game of chutes and ladders, filled with many unfortunate twists and turns. By utilizing the calendar format, the workshop provided a platform for longer exposure to detailed imagery and text, fostering deeper engagement with feminist ideas.
