カルチェパルコ/Quartier PARCO

This is a poster designed for PARCO a shopping center and cultural hub. The first thing that stands out about the design is obvious the vibrant colors which bring a sort of trippy and hip vibe to the piece, as does the contents of the image with the turtle and flower at the center of the poster and a beach scene with mushrooms behind it.  The piece is overall very reminiscent of the motifs of late 60's and early 70's hippie culture which was very prevalent in the west. To off set this western imagery, the typeface in the top left corner is in the traditional vertical style as are the dedication in the bottom right and the poem in the bottom left which reads “This road, as far as I go. What time and day is it? Come back here too, hell called. A paradise called boy's sky.” the use of bright vibrant colors and typefaces of different sizes somehow manages to ground this very western inspired poster back into the Japanese conversation and cultural context.
