This work is an Ukiyo-e (woodblock print) from the Edo period, produced in 1857 by the famous artist Utagawa Hiroshige. He produced a woodblock print, made of ink and colour on paper, to display a scene from Edo city during a sudden rain shower. The print shows villagers rushing across the bridge, attempting to shield themselves from the rain in the foreground, a man on a wooden raft in the middle ground, and vague outlines of trees and buildings in the background. Colour gradation is used for the sky and the water under the bridge, making the dull-colour scene look unique.
