Mexico 68

2

This was appropriation of branding done for the Olympics in 1968.

This was done by students for a student riot in Mexico City. The riots occurred days before the opening ceremony, the students used the design to call for action and demands in change in the government. It ended in an event they called the Tlatelolco massacre.

This was also the year that Black (US) Olympic sprinters Tommie Smith & John Carlos engaged in a silent protest to bring racial violence against Black people in the US. The sprinters were met with opposition and they were suspended for the protest.
