Gekkeikan

9

In 1905, the company adopted "Gekkeikan" as its new sake name.  During the time, a designer was hired to promote the sake under the design by Sozan Sawada. If you look closely, you can see "gekkeikan" written in Roman characters in the center of the label, and "gekkeikan" written in fine katakana characters all over the white background. At first glance, this may seem like a design feature, but it served the purpose of preventing imitations. Watermarked characters, intentionally printed upside down, and other label designs were used to prevent easy reproduction.
