Dajokan-satsu (太政官札)
Daijokan-Satsu was established by the Meiji government in 1868. It was the first Japanese government banknote that could be used throughout Japan. Rokuzan Gengendo was commissioned by the Meiji government to print Daijokan-Satsu. The printing was done by copperplate printing. To print large quantities in a short period, many original plates were needed. However, since each plate was carved by hand, there were small differences in each plate.
