Diamonds are forever – De Beers 1947
This is an ad from the late 1940s from a company called Diamonds Are Forever – De Beers. This was written by a copywriter by the name of Frances Gerety who worked for a Philadelphia agency by the name of NW Ayer. Due to the Great Depression happening a couple of years beforehand the market for diamonds had gone down tremendously. Before this poster ad came out it wasn't standard for engagement rings to have diamonds on, it wasn't a custom. But surely after this ad it took the culture by storm and now about 76 years later, it’s become part of our culture.
