The Public Theater, 95-96 Season
Paula Scher's innovative identity and graphic campaign for New York's Public Theater in the 1990s set a new standard for typography. This text-heavy poster conveys a vast amount of information in a dynamic and expressive manner by using unconventional spacing, combining font colors and weights, and employing uncommon and historic typefaces. This is an example of neat rejection of the modernism movement's grids.
This is one of Scher's most notable work, along with her typographic maps. She has influenced and inspired many in affiliation with the New Wave of graphic designers of the 1980s and 1990s.
