Poster for Women in Design Conference

Feminist graphic designer Shelia Levrant de Bretteville was commissioned in 1975 to create a poster to promote the Women's Building's inaugural event, meant to "represent a dialogue among women amongst the grid," said on pacificstandardtime.org. At the time, women were severely underrepresented in the field of graphic design, and this event was one of the first to highlight their contributions and achievements. The use of bold feminine imagery, such as the repeated female symbols laying across the poster, demonstrated de Bretteville's commitment to promoting feminist values and principles through her work, inspiring other female designers to use their skills to promote social and political causes.
