Cabaret Voltaire Live Performance
The English band Cabaret Voltaire is arguably one of the first instances of some form of VJing—the practice of visuals generated and/or manipulated in real-time that typically accompany musical performances.
It's very different from what we see today, but they essentially created real-time video collages from footage. A lot of the content they were working with seemed to be “home-made” rather than something that was super carefully created. And type was more of an element that was sometimes present, than a key component to their visuals. But their contribution to the VJ scene was important either way, as they sort of set the stage for later real-time visual practices. This particular example is from their performance at La Edad De Oro in 1983.
